April 5, 2013
MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine’s Grace Na improved to 3-for-4 on earning the West Coast Conference’s Women’s Golfer of the Month award this season, as the league office announced Friday that the junior claimed the honor for the month of March.
Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) also picked up the first two awards of the school year back in September and October. The latest one was the fifth of her career.
Na, who currently ranks #4 nationally by Golfstat and #10 by Golfweek/Sagarin, won her third college tournament when she earned medalist honors at the ‘Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Hawaii in mid-March. Na shot a 10-under 206 to win the event, the best score of her career and tied for third-best on Pepperdine’s all-time list. All three of her rounds were below par (67-71-68) and she had a tournament-high 16 birdies. She beat 16 other top-100 players, including the then-#1 ranked player.
Also in March, Na took sixth place at the Bruin Wave Invitational. In seven rounds (the first round of the San Diego State Farms Invitational was contested on March 31), Na had a stroke average of 72.43 for the month.
For the season, Na is averaging 72.25 strokes (currently #2 on Pepperdine’s single-season list). She’s placed in the top 20 at all eight tournaments and in the top 10 at six of them. Her career scoring average of 73.43 is .01 ahead of Lindsey Wright for the top spot on Pepperdine’s all-time list.
Na and the rest of the Waves will next be aiming for their 12th consecutive WCC championship when the conference event is held April 15-17 at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
