No. 5 Pepperdine Finishes Seventh at Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

Junior All-American Eileen Vargas carded an even-par 71 and No. 5 Pepperdine shot the second-lowest round of the day with a 17-over par total of 301 to finish in seventh place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge that concluded Wednesday at the par-71, 5,932-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, California.
The Waves' final-round 301 helped them move from 11th place following Tuesday's round to seventh as they totaled a 54-hole score of 67-over par 919.
Arizona State, which entered play one shot behind USC, carded the low round of the day with a 16-over par 300 to edge the Trojans by a stroke and claim the team title with a 40-over par 892. California (908), Wake Forest (909) and Oklahoma State (910) rounded out the Top 5.
The seventh place finish ended a streak of 15 straight Top 5 showings by the Waves dating back to the 2005 season.
USC's Irene Cho shot a final-round even-par score of 71 to finish at 1-over par 214 and claim individual medalist honors with a one-shot victory over Arizona State's Jennifer Osborn. California Sophie Adnersson (217) placed third and was followed by Wake Forest's Nannette Hill and USC's Paola Moreno, who tied for fourth with 7-over par scores of 220.
Vargas tied for 12th with a 13-over par score of 226 to lead Pepperdine.
The Waves are next in action at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational that will be held February 20-21 at the Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona.
