Oct. 25, 2011
Grace Na and Liv Cheng are first and third, respectively, after Tuesday's second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. The Waves' women's golf team is tied for second place heading into Wednesday's final round.
Pepperdine began the day in third place at the par-72 Boulder Creek Golf Club and was able to move up a bit despite a 5-over 293, giving the Waves a two-day total of a 2-under 574 (281-293). They are tied with UC Irvine and trail leader UC Davis by seven strokes.
Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) wasn't able to match her amazing first round, which featured an NCAA-record-tying 9-under 63, but stayed atop the leaderboard with an even-par 72. The sophomore, who leads Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro by one stroke, is looking for her second career title (she was the medalist at the 2011 WCC Championships).
Na had nine birdies against zero bogeys on Monday, but Tuesday was a bit more up and down with five birdies and five bogeys.
Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand), who is playing as an individual, moved up three spots thanks to her second straight 3-under 69. The sophomore has a 6-under 138 and is three strokes behind Na. Cheng had four birdies and one bogey on the day.
Senior Kaitlin Drolson (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) moved up five places on the leaderboard and is tied for 12th place with a 1-under 143 (71-72). Her even-par round on Tuesday included three birdies.
Freshman Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) moved up 17 spots and is now tied for 31st place with a 3-over 147 (74-73). She also had three birdies on Tuesday.
