Women's Golf Takes Share of First-Round Lead at Golfweek Event

The Waves shot a 2-under 286 and are tied with Oklahoma atop the leaderboard at the par-72 Fazio Course at the Red Sky Golf Club. UC Davis is in third, six shots back. Play continues with single rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept. 25-26).
"It was a good day for us," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. "I am very proud of the girls."
Three Waves posted sub-par scores, led by Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS). The junior, a two-time All-American, had a 3-under 69 that included five birdies, including four on the front nine. Na is tied with two other players and is one shot back of the leader, 2012 NCAA champion Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma.
Sophomores Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) and Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) got off to good starts, as the duo both shot 1-under 71s today and are tied for seventh place. Ching had seven birdies on the day and Lee had six.
