KAPALUA, Maui, Hawaii - Grace Na began defense of her 2013 Anuenue Spring Break Classic title with a 2-under 70, putting her into a tie for first place, while the Pepperdine women's golf team is also tied for first after Monday's first round.

The #8 Waves and #7 Washington are the two highest-ranked teams in the field. They both shot a 2-over 290 at the par-72 Kapulua Bay Course and lead San Jose State (296) by six strokes and UC Davis (298) by eight. The second round is on Tuesday and the third round is on Wednesday.

Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS), a senior who is a three-time All-American and West Coast Conference Player of the Year, is tied with Washington's Ling Yuo and UC Davis' Betty Chen atop the leaderboard. Na is aiming for her sixth career title. She had a total of four birdies during her round.

Two more Waves are in the top 10. Sophomore Marissa Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) is tied for sixth place after an even-par 72, and freshman Alessandra Arza (Asuncion, Paraguay) is tied for 10th after a 1-over 73. Arza had four birdies (which all came during a seven-hole stretch) and Chow had three. It was Arza's best round of the season.

Junior Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) is tied for 21st place after a 75 and senior Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) is tied for 26th place after a 76. Ching recorded three birdies and Cheng had two.

Pepperdine is trying for its third team win of the season. The Waves won the Dick McGuire Invitational and Golfweek Conference Challenge in the fall, and they're coming off a second-place result at their own Bruin Wave Invitational.
