TARZANA, Calif. - Freshman Marissa Chow tied for second place in her best result of the season and the Pepperdine women's golf team took fourth place at its own Bruin Wave Invitational on Tuesday.

Top-ranked USC edged co-host UCLA for the team championship, winning by two strokes after overcoming an eight-stroke deficit to start the day. Pepperdine was the outlier among a group of Pac-12 schools at the top of the leaderboard. Arizona was third and Oregon State was fifth.

Pepperdine shot 922 (312-299-311) over the three rounds at the par-72 El Caballero Country Club. The Waves opened the final round in fourth place and held off the Beavers by two strokes, and also posted a win over 21st-ranked Oklahoma State, which took sixth.

"We're thrilled with how the event went again," Pepperdine Coach Laurie Gibbs said. "El Cab does a fabulous job and is incredibly supportive. The course was in amazingly beautiful shape. We know we've just got a few shots a day that we need to improve upon to finish where we need to finish. We're going to keep doing what we're doing, work hard and focus on our short game. We're getting our confidence back."

USC's Annie Park, who was also the first-round leader, came back to win medalist honors with a 1-under 215.

Chow (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS) wound up four strokes behind Park and ended up with a 3-over 219 (74-71-74), tied with UCLA's Tiffany Lua. It was Chow's first career top-10 finish, and she accomplished it on her birthday.

"Marissa played great," Gibbs said. "I'm really proud of her. She had a great event."

Junior Grace Na (Alameda, Calif./Alameda HS) continued her outstanding season with a sixth-place finish. She shot three consecutive 74s to finish with a 6-over 222. It was Na's fifth top-10 and sixth top-20 result out of six tournaments in 2012-13.

Playing as an individual, junior Liv Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand) also had a season-best finish as she tied for seventh place at 223 (70-79-74). Cheng had 11 birdies over the two days, tied for second-most in the tournament.

Also, junior Danielle Gillaspy (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph's HS) tied for 37th place at 238 (81-76-81), sophomore Alina Ching (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School) tied for 54th at 245 (83-78-84) and sophomore Somin Lee (Denver, Colo./Overland HS) tied for 65th at 250 (85-83-82).

This was the fourth edition of the Bruin Wave Invitational. The previous three were won by USC, UCLA and Pepperdine, so the Trojans became the first two-time winner today.

Pepperdine continues its spring season at the `Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Hawaii on March 25-27.
