Pepperdine Rolls Over Washington, 74-56

SEATTLE, Wash. — Daphanie Kennedy led the Pepperdine women’s basketball team to its second consecutive victory over a Pac-10 school, defeating University of Washington 74-56 at Bank of America Arena in Seattle, Wash. on Tuesday night.

“This was a great win for us. It took every individual on the team, including those on the bench to do their job and tonight, that’s exactly what happened,” said head coach Julie Rousseau. “Daphanie was outstanding, yet the entire team was responsible for this win.”

Kennedy (Oakland, Calif. / Kearny HS) scored a career-high 33 points, tied her career-high 3-pt. record with 15-points and notched 13 field goals to set a new career-high. Miranda Ayim (London, Ontario, Canada) posted her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

“I’ve had a bad sore throat and cold since yesterday and I knew I really needed to focus and stay alert so I didn’t let the team down. I felt like I was in the right place at the right time for most of the game,” said Kennedy

The Waves (4-2) had a 13 point lead over the Huskies (3-5) at halftime (44-31) with Kennedy scoring 19 of the 44 points while shooting 7-11 from the field and 2-5 from the three-point line. The Waves shot 54.8% from the field to the Huskies 32.8%. Ayim had contributed seven rebounds and six points.

Pepperdine continued to dominate the second half holding a 26-point lead with 7:15 left in the game.  The Waves finished at 48.4% from the field, compared to 34.4% for the Huskies.

The Waves host Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Firestone Fieldhouse.
