Waves Fall to Gonzaga, 92-85


 
 

MALIBU, Calif. – Despite shooting a season-best 55.9% from the field, the Pepperdine women’s basketball team dropped its sixth consecutive game, falling 92-85 to Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Pepperdine’s (6-17, 1-8 WCC) season-best shooting performance eclipsed Gonzaga’s (17-7, 8-1 WCC) mark of 51.5%, but the Bulldogs outrebounded the Waves 33-30 and forced 23 turnovers while committing only 15.

The Waves trailed at halftime 44-42 after shooting a blistering 63% from the field to the Bulldogs’ 55.9% mark,  but Pepperdine was outrebounded 16-10 and each team committed 12 turnovers in a half that saw seven ties and three lead changes.

Miranda Ayim (London, Ont. Canada/Saunders Secondary) scored a season-high 23 points and notched her fifth double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds, Daphanie Kennedy (Oakland, Calif./Kearney HS) registered a game-high 28 points and was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free-throw line, and Teiosha George (Palmdale, Calif./Palmdale HS) totaled 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Bulldogs has five players score in double-figures, with Courtney Vandersloot scoring a team-best 20 points and Michelle Elliot and Heather Bowman each pouring in 14.

Up next, the Waves travel to face Santa Clara on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.
