Jan. 22, 2005
MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine women's basketball team opened Saturday's game against Santa Clara with a 10-0 run and never looked back as the Waves upended the Broncos by an 80-65 margin at Leavey Center in Santa Clara, Calif.
Pepperdine (7-12, 3-3 WCC) would see its lead dip below double digits just four times in the second stanza with the game as close as four at the 14:40 mark, 50-46. But the Waves refused to let the game get out of hand before cruising to the 15-point victory.
The Waves were led by Jennifer Lacy's 27 points and 11 rebounds as she connected on 10-15 from the floor. Daphanie Kennedy was outstanding for Pepperdine as well connecting on 11-18 from the floor and scoring 24 points.
For Santa Clara (9-9, 3-2), Michelle Cozad was the lone player to score in double digits as she dumped in 24 points in 31 minutes.
An Ashley Gunnerman layup at the 9:19 mark of the first half to give the Broncos what would be their only lead of the contest at 21-20. The Waves answered with a Teiosha George layup which sparked a 10-0 Pepperdine run. Pepperdine led by 10 at the half, 45-35.
Pepperdine will have just one game next week as it travels to cross-town rival Loyola Marymount for a 5:00 p.m. (PT) tip against the Lions at Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles on Saturday.
