BOULDER, Colorado Â The Pepperdine women’s basketball team concluded its nonconference play with a loss to University of Colorado Friday night, 65-53, at the Coors Event / Conference Center, located in Boulder, Colorado.
The Waves (5-8) ended a 10-day road trip with the disappointing loss. The win marked the tenth-straight victory for Colorado. A streak that hasn’t been matched since 1994.
Senior Daphanie Kennedy (Oakland, Calif. / Kearny HS) scored the first basket of the game with a 3-point shot. However, Pepperdine never regained the lead. The first half ended with the Waves down by 14 points (36-22) and shooting 28% from the field. Colorado (11-2) shot 42%.
Shooting improved in the second half with Pepperdine shooting 44% from the field, yet it wasn’t enough to catch the Buffaloes who also improved shooting in the second half, going from 42% to 48%. Colorado finished the game with a 45% field goal average as compared to Pepperdine with 35%. The Waves outperformed the Buffaloes from beyond the arc 27% to 22%. Free throws continued to be a strong point for Pepperdine as they shot 67% to Colorado’s 64%.
Kennedy was the leading scored for the Waves with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Katie Menton (Coarsegold, Calif. / Yosemite HS) shot 8 points, had 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Waves return to Malibu for a brief stay before heading to the Northwest to open their West Coast Conference play against Gonzaga University on Jan. 10, in Spokane, Washington.
