MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine played its lone exhibition contest of the 2012-13 season and dropped a 67-60 decision to 2012 NAIA National Quarterfinalist Westmont Tuesday night in Firestone Fieldhouse. Bria Richardson (Hawthorne, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) enjoyed a strong night on both ends of the floor, scoring a team-high 22 points on 10-of-20 from the field. After trailing most of the first half, Pepperdine slowly built a 46-39 lead on a bucket by freshman Kelsey Brockway, but Westmont stormed back to take a 53-46 advantage with 9:14 remaining, fueled by three consecutive 3-pointers from Esther Lee and a 3-point play from 2012 Turkish Olympian Tugce Canitez. The Waves fought back to make it a one possession game three times from there, but the Warriors executed down the stretch.
