SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Pepperdine rallied late, but could not come all the way back on the road, dropping a 64-52 decision to Santa Clara Saturday afternoon at the Leavey Event Center. The Waves (4-21, 1-13 WCC) as the Broncos (14-13, 6-8 WCC) complete the season series sweep.

Ea Shoustari (Los Angeles, Calif./L.A.C.E.S.) led the Waves with 11 points on 5-11 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak HS) had 10 points on 4-8 from the field. Keitra Wallace (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda HS) scored nine points and grabbed a team-high six boards.

Santa Clara led by as many as 20 in the second half, taking a 54-30 lead with 4:32 remaining in regulation, fueled by a 8-0 run as the Waves missed 14 consecutive field goals. Pepperdine recovered and went on an 8-0 run of its own to cut the lead to 12, 54-42 with 5:14 remaining. The Waves would cut the lead to single digits on a steal and coast-to-coast lay-up by Shoushtari, but would get no closer.

Pepperdine shot at a .315 (17-54) clip and connected on 3-of-15 from deep. Santa Clara shot .367 (22-60) from the field and 7-for-21 from deep. The Waves lost the board battle 44-34 and were outscored 17-1 on second chance points.

Meagan Fulps led all scorers with 23 points with five 3-pointers for the Broncos. Ruta Zurauskyte added 16 points.

Pepperdine returns to action when it returns to the Bay Are Thursday, Feb. 28 for the second straight weekend this time to take on San Francisco in its final road game of the 2012-13 regular season. Game time against the Dons is set for 7:00 p.m. at War Memorial Gym in a contest featuring live streaming audio via WaveCasts.
