MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine battled, but could not keep pace and dropped a 80-46 decision to Gonzaga in West Coast Conference action Thursday night at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Waves (4-13, 1-5 WCC) fall to the defending league champion Bulldogs (16-5, 6-1 WCC) for the eighth straight time in a series now knotted at 29.

Amanda Lovely (Saratoga, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS) turned in a strong night for the Waves with a career-high 12 points on 4-of-7 from the field with three rebounds in 16 minutes. Shay Cooney-Williams (Frisco, Texas/Frisco HS) chipped in 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

It was a battle early and the lead changed hands four times with four tie scores in the opening seven minutes. The Waves led 11-9 on a 3-pointer from Cooney-Williams with 13:49 left in the first half. It was all Gonzaga from there as the Zags outscored the Waves 27-14 to take a 36-25 lead into the intermission.

Gonzaga opened the second half on an 11-0 run and led by as many as 34. Lovely went on a 7-2 personal run late, but the Waves could only cut the deficit to 14 midway through the second half.

Kelsey Brockway (Rolling Hills, Calif./Palos Verdes HS) scored seven points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds with a block and a steal in 27 minutes.

Pepperdine shot .333 (16-48) from the field and connected on exactly .333 in both the first and second half. Gonzaga connected at a .432 (32-74) rate and drilled .333 (7-21) from long distance. The Zags capitalized on 24 Pepperdine turnovers and converted them to a whopping 34 points.
