Pepperdine Falls at Brigham Young 68-42

PROVO, Utah – Pepperdine struggled offensively and Brigham Young took full advantage, rolling to a 68-42 West Coast Conference victory Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center. The Waves (4-10, 1-2 WCC) simply could not keep pace with the Cougars (12-4, 3-1 WCC).
Kelsey Patrick (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak HS) led the Waves in scoring for the second straight contest, finishing with 11 points to go along with four rebounds and a pair of assists, while Shay Cooney-Williams (Frisco, Texas/Frisco HS) and Tessa Emerson (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) each added eight points.
Game time temperature in Provo was a windy 16 degrees and Pepperdine shot at a frigid .259 (14-54) from the field with just three 3-pointers in 14 attempts (.214). The Cougars connected at a .464 (26-56) rate and drilled seven triples. BYU dominated on the glass at a 44-31 rate and outscored Pepperdine 26-4 in the paint.
After BYU opened a 30-20 lead at the half, Pepperdine closed to within five at 31-26 with 17:28 left on a 3-pointer from Cooney-Williams. The Cougars promptly went on an 11-0 run and held the Waves scoreless for nearly four minutes. Overall Pepperdine managed just six field goals in the second half.
