Kristen Dowling is in her second year as an assistant women's basketball coach for Pepperdine in 2011-12 and is in her second stint working with the program.

In her first season as a full-time assistant, Dowling helped the Waves to an 18-12 record and a spot in the postseason WNIT.

She was appointed to her current position in June of 2010 after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at CSU Bakersfield.

Dowling served as a graduate assistant for the Waves from 2006 to 2008 before making the move to CSUB, where she was part of a coaching staff that guided the Roadrunners to the two best records in school history. Her 2008-09 team compiled an overall record of 19-10 and this past year's squad posted a 16-13 mark, which was tops among the seven NCAA Division I Independent women's basketball programs and earned Bakersfield its first Division I postseason tournament berth.

Two of Dowling's players received postseason accolades following their appearance at the Women's Basketball Invitational. Senior guard Katie Williams was named Independent Player of the Year and was named to the 2009-10 Division I All-Independent Women's Basketball Team along with classmate Phynique Allen.

In her first year at Bakersfield, Dowling coached All-Independent second team honorees Krista Arase and Christine Kepenekian.

Dowling's initial term at Pepperdine included a win over 14th-ranked Rutgers and the opportunity to work with All-WCC first team selections Teena Wickett and Miranda Ayim.

Dowling previously worked as a coach at the high school and youth level before joining Pepperdine's staff. She spent one season as the head coach of the freshman team at Upland High School. She also spent two years working with the Nothin' But Net Youth Basketball program, coordinating after school clinics, youth leagues and AAU Tournaments.

Dowling played collegiately at the University of Redlands, where she led the Bulldogs to their second-ever Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 2004. She was a four-year scholar-athlete and helped Redlands win a WBCA Class Act Achievement Award.

A native of Upland, Dowling graduated from Upland High School. She was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Redlands, earning her bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in physical education. She went on to earn her master's in educational technology at Pepperdine. She also is a graduate of Nike's So You Want to Be a Coach program and the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy.
