Training Staff & Team Physician Biographies
Kevin Wright is a 1996 graduate of Pepperdine University with a bachelor's degree in sports medicine and a 1999 graduate of the University of Oregon with a master's degree in exercise and movement science. Previous to coming to Pepperdine, as the assistant athletic trainer, Wright spent three years at Christian Heritage College in San Diego as the head athletic trainer. While at CHC Wright oversaw the seven NAIA level athletic teams and taught full time in the Kinesiology department. Wright returned to Pepperdine in the fall of 2002 and was elevated to the position of head athletic trainer in the fall of 2009. He now resides in Agoura Hills with his wife Carrie and daughters Calista and Mari.
Nicole Agee is a 2002 graduate of UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physiological science and a 2004 graduate of Fresno State University with a master's degree in Kinesiology. Previous to coming to Pepperdine in 2006, she spent two years at Long Beach State University as one of two assistant athletic trainers. While at Long Beach, she oversaw the CPR and first aid instruction for the athletic department. Agee and her husband Steve reside in Reseda.
Michael Thomas is a 2006 graduate of Long Beach State University with a bachelor's of science degree in Kinesiology and a 2009 graduate of San Jose State University with a master's of arts degree in Kinesiology. While at San Jose State Michael provided medical coverage for the women's basketball, women's volleyball and football teams. Mike is single and resides in Tarzana.
Shane Besedick is a 2008 graduate of Long Beach State University with a bachelor's of science degree in Kinesiology and a 2010 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a master's of science degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion. Prior to Pepperdine, Shane was a graduate intern athletic trainer at The University of California, Berkeley where he provided medical coverage for baseball, women's soccer, and men's water polo. Shane is single and resides in Santa Monica.
Dr. Gary Green has served the Pepperdine athletic program since 1995. In addition with his duties in the athletics department, Dr. Green is also a physician at the Pepperdine Student Health Center. He is the former chairman of the NCAA Committee on Drug Testing and Drug Education. In April of 2010, Dr. Green was named medical director for Major League Baseball. He had served as a consultant to MLB on anabolic steroids and performance-enhancing substances since 2003. Dr. Green practices family medicine at the Pacific Palisades Medical Group.
Dr. Bert Mandelbaum practices at Santa Monica Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group (SMOG) in Santa Monica and has worked with the Pepperdine athletics program since 1989. Dr. Mandelbaum has served as a national team physician for U.S. Soccer since 1991 and is honored to have traveled with the US Men's National Team to every World Cup since 1994. He is currently the team physician for the LA Galaxy and is a member of the U.S. Gymnastics Medicine Advisory Board. In 1999 and 2003, Dr. Manelbaum served as the chief medical officer for the Women's World Cup.
Dr. Mandelbaum is well published in areas of injury prevention and articular cartilage repair. He sits on the FIFA Medical Committee as well as the F-MARC (FIFA Medical Assessment and Research) Committee.
In 2007 Dr. Mandelbaum and the Santa Monica Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group were designated by FIFA as a FIFA Medical Center of Excellence. SMOG and Duke University are the only two centers honored with this designation in the USA.
Dr. Howard Liebeskind enters his 27th year as a member of the Pepperdine University Athletic Medicine Staff. He is an internationally recognized podiatrist and respected member of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. Dr Liebeskind's scope of care includes the management of foot, ankle, and lower extremity disorders along with expertise in biomechanics and orthotic fabrication. Dr Liebeskind's career in podiatric sports medicine has included affiliation with the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association, Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League, Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League, and Los Angeles Riptide of Major League Lacrosse. He currently serves as team podiatrist to the US Men's and Women's World Cup and National Soccer Teams, Los Angeles Galaxy & CD Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, the UCLA Athletic Department, and Los Angeles ballet. Dr. Liebeskind is a graduate of Syracuse University and William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. He completed his residency training at Van Nuys Community Hospital. In addition to his accomplishments, Dr.Liebeskind is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and its affiliate California Podiatric Medical Association, and Los Angeles County Podiatric Medical Association. Dr Liebeskind maintains an active private practice in West Hills, CA. and is also a member of the Santa Monica Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group.
Dr. Terry Weyman is a sports chiropractic consultant and has a practice in Westlake Village. Dr. Weyman has been the Clinic Director of the Chiropractic Sports Institute for over 16 years. In 2003 he finished his Sports Medicine internship at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and in August of 2005 he was selected by the USOC to be the Team USA Chiropractor at the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey. Dr. Weyman has been the Chief Medical Director of many professional and top amateur athletic events including the Professional Water ski and Wakeboard tour, PRCA Rodeo and Four winds Adventure Race. He has also been the Team Chiropractor for the National cycling team, and Team Luna Women's mountain bike team. In 1994 he was the Norwegian Alpine Ski Team Chiropractor for the 1994 Winter Olympics held in Lillehammer, Norway.
Anne Stone has provided nutrition counseling in private practice for more than 20 years. Anne received her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from Colorado State University and her master's of science degree from California State University, Northridge. Anne has been a consulting dietitian to SoCal Collective Triathlon Club and Team in Training triathlon teams since 2007. Anne is a member of ADA, SCAN and CSPDA. Anne and her husband Scott reside in Westlake Village.
