Q: My son or daughter has had a recent physical exam with our personal physician. Will that exam qualify them for athletic participation at Pepperdine?
A: No, your son or daughter will need to be examined and cleared by our team physicians prior to their athletic participation at Pepperdine University.
Q: What happens if my son or daughter does not have primary medical insurance?
A: IF YOU NEED PRIMARY INSURANCE, have no insurance or if you are an International Student and need primary insurance in the United States, please contact the Athletic Training Center. Staff Athletic Trainers can recommend an affordable PRIMARY POLICY that covers both injury and illness for the student-athlete while at Pepperdine University. The policy we recommend is more encompassing than the general plan offered by the university (Aetna through the Student Health Center). In addition it is very cost effective at a competitive premium.
Q: What if my son or daughter has had an injury in the past that has required medical attention and subsequent testing or surgery (including but not limited to x-rays, MRI's, EKG's)?
A: If your son/daughter has experienced an injury in the past that has required medical attention and subsequent testing and or surgery it is imperative that this is documented in the athlete's Health History Questionnaire. Also, please send testing reports (x-ray/MRI etc) and physician notes and or documentation regarding this injury.
Q: What if my son or daughter wants to try out for a Pepperdine Division I athletic team?
A: If your son or daughter wants to try out for one of Pepperdine athletic team's, that team's coach will notify our department of the tryout. Your son or daughter will then need to meet with our medical staff to receive a try out medical form. Your son or daughter will then need to make an appointment with a local physician or with the student health center for an athletic physical exam. Once that exam is complete and the exam has been reviewed by our team physician your son or daughter will be clear to try out for the athletic team. If your son or daughter is put on the team's roster they will be directed to fill out the complete student athlete medical information available in the Student-Athlete Forms section of this website.
