Waves Edged Out by USC at the Buzzer, 3-2

Strong defensive play by both goalkeepers kept the scoring low. The fourth period went without a goal until there was 1:23 remaining in the match and Justin Rappel scored for USC to tie the score 2-2. The match seemed destined for overtime when Hewko was ejected with 5 seconds on the clock and the Trojans scored on a man-up opportunity as the buzzer sounded.
USC clinched a berth for the NCAA final four for winning the tournament. An at-large team is to be selected tonight by an NCAA appointed committee. Both Stanford and Pepperdine are expected to vie for the spot. The Cardinal took an early lead at 3-0 in the first period, finishing the half up by two goals at 5-2. UCLA came back in the third to score three goals in a row to close the gap by one at 6-5 with 3:02 left in the period. Two goals by Stanford's Sage Wright and one by Janson Wigo in the fourth gave the Cardinal the win. Goalkeeper Jimmie Sandman had 12 saves for Sanford and Janson Wigo, Drac Wigo and Sage Wright all scored hat tricks for the Cardinal. Krusto Sbutega recorded a hat trick for UCLA.
