No. 2 Cal, No. 3 Stanford Await Waves Water Polo

MALIBU, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Pepperdine water polo team will return to action for the first time in nine days on Saturday when it heads to the Bay Area for a Noon tilt against No. 2-ranked Cal in Berkeley, Calif. The following day, the Waves will compete against third-ranked Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., as the team returns to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play.
Pepperdine (14-6, 1-1 MPSF) is 7-3 in its last 10 contests and has won three consecutive, including a fifth-place finish at the NorCal Open the weekend of Oct. 15-16. Senior Jesse Smith ranks 23rd nationally in scoring and leads the team with 38 goals. Sophomore Adam Hewko is second on the team with 32 goals, while Grant Miller is third with 31.
The Waves are averaging 9.1 goals per contest this season, while allowing 6.7. Of note, Pepperdine is out-scoring its opponents by a 51-32 margin in the second period and by a 48-32 count in the third.
