UC Santa Barbara Betters Pepperdine, 13-6

MALIBU, Calif. - JP MacDonell scored twice against UC Santa Barbara Sunday afternoon on day two of the NorCal Tournament in Stanford, Calif., but it was not enough to hold off the Gauchos who handed the Waves a 13-6 defeat.
MacDonell (Redwood City, Calif.) was Pepperdine's (4-4) leading scorer with the first coming on a penalty shot in the first period. Charles Wright (Long Beach, Calif.) put the Waves on the board first with a 6-on-5 goal before MacDonell's score gave Pepperdine a 2-0 lead. Senior Doug Mann (Coronado, Calif.) capped the Waves' scoring in the first quarter with his only goal of the game at the 2:33 mark.
Dorian Beaney (Lake Forest, Calif.) put Pepperdine up by a 4-2 score early in the second period and Jamie Wolff's (New Canaan, Conn.) goal at the 4:11 mark of the second gave the Waves a two-point 5-3 lead.
From the end of the second until the 3:52 mark of the fourth, UCSB held Pepperdine scoreless, while netting 10 goals of its own to build a commanding 12-5 lead. MacDonell accounted for the final Pepperdine goal.
The Waves will face UC Irvine later today in the final game of the tournament.
