Waves' Offense Stalls in 9-7 Loss to LMU

MALIBU, Calif. - Sixth-ranked Pepperdine water polo team went scoreless in the third quarter of Saturday's game against cross-town rival Loyola Marymount and never recovered, falling 9-7 to the Lions at the Burns Recreation & Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
LMU (4-1) used a 6-on-5 advantage to score the opening goal of the game at the 3:44 mark. The Waves (3-2) answered when senior Doug Mann netted the first of his three goals in the game with 1:54 remaining in the period.
Pepperdine took its first lead of the contest as Mann scored at the 5:12 mark of the second period. The lead was short lived as the Lions recorded their second man-advantage goal less than a minute later. Sam Busby notched his only goal of the afternoon at the two-minute mark and again LMU answered on the ensuing possession. Both teams would tack on a goal with less than a minute remaining in the half.
The Lions scored the only two goals of the third quarter and led by as many as four, 9-5, with just 2:39 remaining in the game.
The Waves received late goals from JP MacDonell and Mann.
Pepperdine will next be in action when it travels to Stanford, Calif., to compete in the NorCal Tournament.
