MALIBU, Calif. - No scores or stats were kept during a three-team exhibition series involving No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 7 UC Santa Barbara at No. 2 UCLA Saturday afternoon at the Bruins' Spieker Aquatics Center, but Waves' head coach Jack Kocur came away more than pleased with his team's overall performance.

"I thought today's effort was a success," he said. "We really started to gel during those final few quarters and all the guys we're counting on this season played to the very best of their abilities. We may have entered this year as a preseason No. 8 or 9 depending on the poll, but I felt we proved that we can play with the best in the nation."

Pepperdine will continue to be tested Sunday when it plays host to a one-day mini tournament at Raleigh Runnels Pool, beginning at 1 p.m. The Waves will first play a pair of exhibitions against Golden West and UCSB before officially opening their 2010 campaign against Claremont at 5:40 p.m.

Claremont received one vote in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Varsity Top 20 Preseason poll.
