MALIBU, Calif. – Four men’s water polo players were recognized for outstanding achievement in the classroom and were named to the MPSF All-Academic Team as announced by the league. Matt Brown (Bellevue, Wash./Brown Academy) headlines the list earning his league honors for the third straight season.

Colin Carroll (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley HS) earned academic honors for the second straight season, while Ray McIntyre (Calabasas, Calif./Notre Dame HS) and Bence Valics (Eger, Hungary/Erzsebet Secondary) collected their first MPSF nods.

Brown turned in a solid four-year career with the Waves and provided stability and leadership during his time in Malibu. In the pool he recorded 29 career goals, including a hat trick against Harvard and was a perennial standout in the classroom, earning two All-District and three All-MPSF academic accolades since his arrival in Malibu.

Carroll made a successful transition from goalie to field player and amassed 30 goals, 31 steals and 17 assists in his last three seasons in Malibu. The two-time MPSF All-Academic team selection registered a career-best 13 goals this season as a senior.

McIntyre appeared in 23 games for the Waves in his sophomore campaign and scored seven goals with six assists and three steals in his first major action in the pool for Pepperdine. McIntyre scored a season-high two goals against Stanford at the NorCal Tournament.

Valics turned in a strong sophomore campaign between the Pepperdine pipes and ranked second among MPSF leaders in saves (11.71) and eighth in GAA (9.33). He finished the season with a league-high 281 saves in 24 contests, including a season-high 21 against Long Beach State.
