Marv Dunphy and the Olympics
Marv Dunphy has had a long association with USA Volleyball, having been the head coach of the gold-medal-winning Olympic team in 1988. The team won each of the major international tournaments during his tenure, also capturing the 1985 World Cup and the 1987 Pan Am Games. His teams maintained a #1 world ranking and compiled an impressive record of 197-31 (.864) during his time as coach.
Since then, he has also been an assistant coach for the men's team at the 2000 Olympics and a consultant coach at the 1996, 2004 and 2008 Olympics. The Americans also captured gold in 2008. In 2012, Dunphy served as a consultant coach for the women's squad.
