July 21, 2005

Former Pepperdine men and women's volleyball standouts continue their quest in the AVP Nissan Championship series this weekend at the Hermosa Beach Open in Southern California. Pepperdine will be represented equally in both the men and women's tournament with four players vying for a share of the $250,000 purse.

In the women's draw, 1994 Pepperdine graduate Jennifer Meredith and partner Nancy Mason are the No. 5 seed, while 1997 grad Ann Windes along with partner Saralyn Smith are the 16th seed in the main draw. Two other former Waves will have to fight through the qualifier's bracket Thursday to reach the weekend's main draw. Stacy Rouwenhorst (2003) and Christina Hinds (2005) compete as the No. 15 and No. 32 qualifiers, respectively.

On the men's side, 2005 graduates Sean Rooney and John Mayer have not been seeded but have earned enough points to enter into the main draw. Dain Blanton (1994) and partner Kevin Wong will open the weekend as the No. 8 seed, while current men's assistant coach and 2001 graduate Scott Wong and teammate are the No. 11 seed.

The qualifier bracket runs all day Thursday with the main draw beginning Friday and running through the weekend. Saturday and Sunday's finals are scheduled to be televised on NBC at 1:30 (PST).
