No. 3 UCLA Defeats Pepperdine In Three Games Saturday Night At Firestone Fieldhouse

The third-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to defeat No. 4 Pepperdine in three games during a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) match Saturday night at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Bruins won by scores of 30-26, 30-25, 30-25.
UCLA improved to 20-4 on the season and 14-4 in MPSF play while the Waves fell to 15-7 on the year and 11-7 in conference action.
J.T. Wagner, Paul Johnson and Chris Pena each tallied 13 kills to UCLA. Wagner registered a double-double as he also 10 digs. Steve Klosterman also reached double-digit in kills as he registered 11.
Junior outside hitter Sean Rooney totaled a match-high 24 kills and a team-best .600 hitting percentage to lead Pepperdine. Senior outside hitter Fred Winters also reached double-digits in kills with 15.
UCLA posted a .427 hitting percentage for the match while Pepperdine registered a .385 hitting attack. After hitting over .400 in the first two games, the Waves hit just .243 in Game 3.
Pepperdine hits the road next week for its final two road matches when it travels to the Bay Area to face Stanford at beginning at 7 p.m. The Waves will remain in the Northern California when it travels to Stockton to face Pacific on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m.
