Feb. 27, 2006
MALIBU, Calif. - Senior middle blocker Andy Hein has been selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) men's volleyball Player of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Hein helped lift Pepperdine (10-3, 10-3 MPSF) to a pair of road victories over the weekend downing Pacific, 3-0, and Stanford, 3-1. For the weekend, the Carol Stream, Ill., native recorded 22 kills on 30 swings with just two errors in hitting at a 66.7 percent clip. Hein added 1.43 blocks per game and a service ace as the Waves pulled within one-half game of conference front runner, BYU.
Pepperdine will wrap up its three-match road swing on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (PT) when it travels to Pauley Pavilion to face the UCLA Bruins. Wednesday's match will be a rematch of last year's NCAA championship match in which the Waves won their fifth national title with a 3-2 victory.
