Feb. 5, 2007

MALIBU, Calif. - Pepperdine sophomore opposite hitter Paul Carroll was selected as the MPSF Molten Men's Volleyball Player of the Week for matches the week of Jan. 29 - Feb. 4 announced by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Monday evening.

This marks the first time this season and in his career that Carroll has earned the conference's top weekly honor and second straight week a Pepperdine athlete has been awarded the accolade, following Tom Hulse.

Carroll averaged 6.25 kills per game on .457 hitting, recorded six aces, nine digs and three blocks in helping lead Pepperdine to a pair of road victories over Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara.

The Forester, Australia native logged the second 30+ kill match of the season with 31 against the Matadors. The total ranks in a tie for the third highest mark in the rally-scoring era at Pepperdine. He added three aces, seven digs and three blocks in the five-game victory. In a showcase of two of the nation's top rightside hitters, Carroll pounded out 19 kills on .531 hitting while added three aces as the Waves swept UC Santa Barbara.

Pepperdine wraps up its current five-match road swing Friday when it travels to Los Angeles for a 7 p.m. PT first serve against USC at the Galen Center. The Waves downed the Trojans 3-1 in the team's first meeting of the season.
