Feb. 1, 2006
MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore setter Jonathan Winder has been selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) men's volleyball Player of the Week, announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Winder set the Waves to a pair of victories last weekend, including a 3-1 decision over then-No. 1 Long Beach State. For the week the Irvine, Calif., native set Pepperdine to a .341 hitting percentage, while dishing out 14.43 assists per game. The 6-foot-8 Winder recorded 2.14 digs and 1.43 assists per game. Despite earning the MPSF's Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, Winder was never selected as the Player of the Week.
Winder's 14.26 assists per game this season is tops in Division I-II, while Pepperdine ranks fifth in the nation in hitting percentage.
Pepperdine will travel to Provo, Utah, this weekend for a pair of matches against No. 2 BYU.
