Waves Beat Hawaii in Four Games Again


 
 

HONOLULU, Hawaii ­Â— For the second straight night, the #3 Pepperdine men’s volleyball team defeated #11 Hawaii in four games in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on Friday evening.

 

With the 30-27, 30-22, 27-30, 30-26 victory, the Waves improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the MPSF, while the Warriors fell to 1-4, 0-2.

 

Senior opposite Paul Carroll (Forster, Australia) and senior outside hitter Matt McKee (Aurora, Ill./Aurora West HS) both posted kill-dig double-doubles. Carroll had a team-high 23 kills, McKee added 21 kills and both had 10 digs. Sophomore setter Kasey Crider (Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS) had 62 assists and 14 digs.

 

On Thursday night, the Waves had to come back after losing the first game. Tonight, they won the first two games, and despite letting the third game get away, they polished off the Warriors in the fourth game.

 

Pepperdine hit .419 for the match and no worse than .367 in any of the four games. Even in the third game, the Waves had a .448-.351 hitting edge. Hawaii hit .270 overall.

 

The Waves return home and will host Pacific on Friday (Jan. 23) and #4 Stanford on Saturday (Jan. 24) in Firestone Fieldhouse.
