Carroll, Pepperdine Cruise in Season Opener

MALIBU, Calif. - Paul Carroll recorded a match-high 21 kills on .731 hitting with four service aces, John Parfitt added 11 kills and Pepperdine swept Cal Baptist Tuesday night in the Waves' 2007 season opener.
Jon Grobe had 10 kills and Tom Hulse hit .778 with four block assists as Pepperdine (1-0) won its season opening match for the 26th straight time dating back to 1981.
As a team, Pepperdine hit .451 for the match after hitting .581 and .433 in games one and two, respectively.
Cal Baptist (0-4) was led by Shamau Awudu who ended the night with 18 kills on .556 hitting, Yukai Sun had seven kills and Urs Gunthor added five.
Pepperdine will continue its four-match home stand Friday night as it opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play against No. 12 Southern California. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at Firestone Fieldhouse.
