Pepperdine eventually tied the game at 23-23 after Jaynes was in on two consecutive blocks. The Waves took the lead at 27-26 after a kill by Riecks. They finished the game off on their second game point on a Cardinal attack error.

Tied 6-6 in the third game, Pepperdine went on a 12-1 run to help put the match away. Torres had four of his kills during the stretch. Senior outside hitter Brent Schirripa (Los Angeles, Calif./Crespi Carmelite) came off the bench to record eight kills on eight swings in the third set and scored eight of the Waves' final 11 points, including the match-ender.
