Nov. 3, 2005
Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team opened play on Thursday at the 2005 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships hosted by The Ohio State University in Columbus and at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships in Los Angeles, California.
Senior Pedro Rico was defeated in the first round of singles by No. 2-seed John Isner of Georgia 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. Assistant coach Per Nilsson thought Rico played a great match despite the difficulty of playing indoors. "Rico overcame a lot in the match and fought hard against a good player. Despite the loss, he's looking forward to getting some wins in the back draw."
Rico and senior teammate Ivor Lovrak lost 8-6 in the first round of doubles to Boise State's Luke Shields and Thomas Schoeck.
The Wave duo will enter the back draw beginning Friday morning and will face Dan Hanegby and Phil Charm of Brown. Rico will face Raul Morant-Rivas of Texas A&M in the singles back draw also beginning Friday.

Johnson will play tomorrow at 11 a.m, while he and Borzenski will play doubles at 3:30 p.m.
