Pepperdine's Pedro Rico Falls in Singles at All-American Tennis Championships
Oct. 6, 2005
Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine senior Pedro Rico lost in the third set against Lars Poerschke of Baylor 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-4 in the first round of singles competition in the main draw of the 2005 Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Rico fought back from a large deficit to win the second set, but ultimately could not defeat his opponent.
Head Coach Adam Steinberg was pleased with the way his top-player performed. "I thought Pedro played very well for his first match of the year. He faced a tough competitor from Baylor and got a good rhythm going despite the cold and windy weather conditions."
In the first round of consolation play, Todd Paul of Wake Forest eliminated Rico 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Pepperdine men's tennis team is next in action on October 14-16 at the Midland Racquet Club Invitational held in Midland, Texas.
