Sofaer Picks Up WCC All-Academic Honors
May 1, 2014
MALIBU, Calif. - For the third consecutive season, senior David Sofaer of the Pepperdine men's tennis team earned a spot on the West Coast Conference All-Academic team roster. He joins Portland's Michael Hu Kwo as the only other three-time recipient on this year's squad.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS) has been a lineup mainstay throughout his four seasons with the Waves. In the classroom, he's also taken care of business with an impressive GPA of 3.53 as an advertising major.
He saved his best tennis for last, reaching as high as #58 in the ITA singles rankings in 2014. Behind a 22-12 overall record, Sofaer made his All-WCC debut as a second team singles performer.
Sofaer ends his four seasons with the Waves with 65 singles wins and 69 doubles victories.
He has inked his name twice in the Pepperdine record book for his doubles success in 2012. He partnered with fellow Aussie Hugh Clarke and produced a dual season record of 24-4, ranked tied for second for overall wins and 10th for winning percentage (.857).
The Waves have reached the NCAA Championship twice during Sofaer's tenure, including back-to-back quarterfinal appearances in 2012 and 2013.
