MALIBU, Calif. -- Just like the Pepperdine women's team, the men swept its opponent today with a 4-0 victory against Loyola Marymount on the campus of Santa Clara University at the 2004 West Coast Conference (WCC) Tennis Championships. The Waves will play in the championship match Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
In singles action, Pepperdine earned points at the bottom of the line-up thanks to easy victories from No. 4 Scott Doerner, No. 5 Richard Johnson, and No. 6 Alexis Rafidison. Doerner defeated Beau Berglund (6-2, 6-1), Johnson took care of Matt Phillips (6-1, 6-2) and Rafidison beat Ashton Politanoff (6-1, 6-0). On the doubles side, No. 46 Doerner/Herrera raced past Wojnarowicz/Phillips, 8-3, and Rico/Rafidison handed Terrien/Politanoff a quick, 8-1, loss.
