Malibu, Calif. -

In the second day of the men's tennis West Coast Conference championships, wins from host Pepperdine and San Diego set up Sunday's championship match,  The two will meet at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

The top-ranked Waves opened the day with a 4-0 win over #4 Santa Clara.  After taking the doubles point at the conclusion of two matches, Pepperdine rolled on in singles success.  For the second day in a row, Ivor Lovrak paced the Waves with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bobby Rasmussen at No. 5.  Wins from Alexis Rafidison and Scott Doerner put the Pepperdine in position for its 15th consecutive WCC championship.

Trying to break that mark will be #2 San Diego who earned its way into the championship with a 4-0 shutout of #3 Portland.  After a split, the doubles point came down to USD's Ysern/Plotnik and Portland's Jager/Kennel.  San Diego ended the match with a 9-7 win for the 1-0 lead.  In singles the Toreros relied on the bottom half of their lineup where the were supported with wins on courts four, five and six.  Blair, Liversage and Plotnik each took convincing straight set wins to setup Sunday's meeting with the Waves.

The afternoon saw #4 Loyola Marymount hand #8 Gonzaga its second loss in as many days when the Loins took the top four singles decisions.  Skipping doubles, Mike Wojnarwicz beat Bryce Cooper 6-3, 6-3 at the top of the lineup.  Nico Terrien, Beau Berglund and Linas Cicenas each notched two-set wins as well.

In the 6-7 showdown Saint Mary's prevailed over San Francisco by a 4-2 count.  Leading 3-1 after Yury Platonov's 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Fernando Rodriguez Saint Mary's needed a win on six to avoid a doubles inducing tie.  J.J. Whitilinger provided for the Gaels, bouncing back from a second-set loss to take the third 6-3.
