MALIBU, Calif. - The Pepperdine Waves picked up the double's point and five of the six single's points Wednesday afternoon in a 6-1 defeat of the Yale Bulldogs at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. The victory extends the team's home win streak to 51 straight.
With the victory, Pepperdine improved to 10-6 on the season, Yale falls to 3-4.
The Waves fell behind 1-0 in doubles after Brandon Wai and Rory Green bettered Andre Begemann, 8-4 at the No. 1 position. Pepperdine answered back as Bassam Beidas and James Lemke picked up the 8-4 victory over Matt Schimmel and Connor Dawson at No. 3. There was little drama even with the point locked at 1-1 as Richard Johnson and Omar Altmann cruised past Josh Lederman and Jeff Dawson, 8-4, at the No. 2 position, giving the point to the Waves.
Yale went on to even the score at 1-all by picking up a 6-0, 6-2 straight set victory at the No. 6 single's position when Connor Dawson defeated Oliver Hyams. The loss proved to be the last of the day for Pepperdine.
Beidas won at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 7-5, over Michael Caldwell and Altmann cruised past Green in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4 for a 3-1 lead in the match. Begemann needed three sets after winning the first, 6-4, and dropping the second to Wai, 6-3, to clinch the match for the home team at the No. 1 spot. In the final set, Begemann picked up a 6-1 win.
Johnson and Mahoud Kamel both needed three sets to earn their victories at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively. Johnson bested Jeff Dawson, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at the No. 3 position and Kamel earned a 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 victory at No. 5 to conclude the contest.
