Men's Tennis Downs Florida State for 50th Straight Home Victory

MALIBU, Calif. - Richard Johnson defeated Sam Chang, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles position to lift the Pepperdine Waves to their a thrilling 4-3 victory over Florida State at the Ralph-Straus tennis center in Malibu, Calif. The victory extends Pepperdine's home winning streak to 50 straight.
Pepperdine struck first in the match as the doubles team of Bassam Beidas and James Lemke made quick work of Chang and Chris Cloer, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot. The Waves were up 4-1 and 7-5 at the No. 2 spot as Andre Begemann and Mahmoud Kamel went down in defeat to Florida State's Ytai Abougzir and Maciek Sykut, 8-6. During the Seminole's victory at No. 1, FSU's rallied to force a tiebreak at No. 2 before falling 8-6.
Lemke scored the only straight-set victory of the match 6-3, 6-3 over Sykut to put Pepperdine up 2-0 in the match.
Florida State's first point came at the No. 6 position as Mixson defeated Kamel 7-6, 1-6, 6-2.
Omar Altmann pulled Pepperdine within one point of winning the match by downing Cloer, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Seminoles picked up their second point at No. 2 when Aubone took down Beidas, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Begemann and Abougzir were locked in a battle that Abougzir picked up a pair of late breaks to make things interesting as far as the outcome of the match, but Johnson's victory made FSU's 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 victory at No. 1 moot.
Pepperdine will go for its 51st straight home victory Wed., March 14 when it hosts Yale at 11 a.m. PT.
