Pepperdine Men's Tennis Moves up in Poll
Feb. 1, 2005
Malibu, Calif. - Pepperdine men's tennis is ranked No. 24 in the current Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I men's team poll. The poll released on February 1 moved the Waves up three places from their 27 ranking on January 11.
Head coach Adam Steinberg's Waves are 3-1 on the season with the only blemish coming last Thursday in a closely fought 4-3 loss to USC. The Trojans remain at No. 8 in the poll.
Pepperdine has been dominant in its three wins going 20-1 in singles matches. The Waves have been even better in doubles, winning all nine matches in their three victories.
The Waves are 2-0 against West Coast Conference opponents, holding early-season wins over Saint Mary's and Santa Clara. The only other WCC team making an appearance in the rankings is No. 44 University of San Diego (0-0). The Toreros are not on the Waves' regular season schedule, but a showdown at the WCC Championships in Malibu in April looks to be eminent.
Pepperdine's next match is Wednesday, February 9 when they host UC Irvine. Following that the Waves will travel to Washington to take on the 18th-ranked Huskies.
