Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team will travel to Los Angeles to take on the No. 8 USC Trojans Wednesday. The Waves are 1-0 after defeating Saint Mary's on Saturday and are ranked No. 27 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 pm at Marks Tennis Stadium.
Pepperdine will start No. 13 Perdro Rico atop its lineup and will follow with No. 88 Scott Doerner. The one-two punch will combat the top Trojans. USC will counter with No. 89 Jamil Al-Aqba and No. 97 Johan Berg. Doerner already boasts a win over Berg as he defeated the Swede in the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional Championships in October, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Former Pepperdine coach Peter Smith's Trojans are 2-0 after defeating San Diego State and Cal Poly on Saturday.
The Trojans hold the series edge over the Waves 15-11, with USC edging out a 4-3 win in their last meeting last spring. Pepperdine's last win against the Trojans came in the 2003 season when the teams split the series.
