ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – Senior Francis Alcantara of the Pepperdine men’s tennis team settled for second place at the Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational after falling in three sets in the finals today. Alcantara, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, fell to top seeded Tony Lupieri of Baylor.

Alcantara (Cagayan de Oro, Philippines/Fresno State) powered his way through the first four rounds, winning in straight sets in all four matches.

The senior dropped his first set of the tournament in set one vs. Lupieri, 6-3, but rebounded with a 6-3 triumph in the second frame to force a third.

Lupieri saved his best for last, and shut out the Wave in the final set to claim the singles title.

Alcantara still boasts a respectable fall singles record at 6-2.

Next weekend, Alex Sarkissian (Glendale, Calif./Glendale CC) will represent Pepperdine at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. on Nov. 7-10.
