Waves Finish at USTA Clay Court Invitational
Oct. 26, 2013
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team wrapped action at the USTA Clay Court Invitational. David Sofaer saw his run come to an end in the quarterfinals, while Alexander Solonin picked up a win in consolation.
Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS) won three times in two days to advance to the singles quarterfinals, where he met with USC's Max de Vroom. Although Sofaer had won the only previous meeting against the Trojan, de Vroom walked away with the win today.
After winning the first set 6-4, the Wave was unable to close out the match and narrowly fell 6-3 and 7-5 in sets two and three.
Sofaer's fall record stands at team-best 8-3. Fellow senior Alex Sarkissian (Glendale, Calif./Glendale CC), the runner-up at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional Championship last week, boasts an identical record.
Alexander Solonin (Tarzana, Calif./Thousand Oaks HS) picked up a win in consolation today, beating Jose Sangroniz of Central Florida 6-2, 7-5.
The Waves continue the fall season with the Southern California Intercollegiate Championship on Oct. 30 through Nov. 3.
