ORLANDO, Fla. – David Sofaer of the Pepperdine men’s tennis team won twice today at the USTA Clay Court Invitational to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. The senior owns a team-best 8-2 record this fall season.
Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia/Sydney Distance Education HS), seeded 9-16 in the 64-player draw, opened the day with a win over Tom Fawcett. The Wave won the first set 6-3 before his opponent was forced to retire.
In his second match of the day, Sofaer faced Robbie Bellamy of USC. The two foes battled all the way to a 6-6 tie in set one, but Sofaer emerged with a 7-4 win in the tiebreaker to claim the advantage. With momentum on his side, the senior handily won the second frame 6-1.
