Waves Continue at ITA All-American Championships
Oct. 4, 2012 TULSA, Okla. – Finn Tearney, Khunpak Issara and Lorraine Guillermo of the Pepperdine men’s and women’s tennis teams wrapped main draw action at the ITA All-American Championships today. Tearney competed in the singles main draw in Tulsa, Okla. while Issara and Guillermo played in the main doubles event in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Issara (Bangkok, Thailand/Bangkok Patana School) opened the day with a singles win in the consolation round, and defeated Marianne Jodoin of Duke, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. She finishes the tournament with a 3-1 overall record. Issara then began doubles action alongside partner Guillermo (Walnut, Calif./Rowland HS). The duo battled game-for-game with South Florida’s Lareto Alonso Martinez and Katie Vasenina but in the end fell by just a single break, 8-6. The duo resumes action tomorrow in the consolation round. Meanwhile in Tulsa, Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand) dropped his first set to Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma 6-2, before rebounding in the second set 6-4. In the third and deciding frame, Alcorta earned a late break that proved to be the difference maker and prevailed 7-5.
