#8 Men's Tennis Continues Winning Ways, Defeats Portland 6-1

Waves back in action on Saturday, and will celebrate Senior Day prior to the 11 a.m. match vs. Gonzaga.

MALIBU, Calif. - The #8-ranked Pepperdine men's tennis team won its 14th straight with a 6-1 triumph over Portland on Thursday afternoon. The Waves emerged victorious in eight of the day's nine matches to improve to 17-6 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the West Coast Conference.

Pepperdine cruised through doubles, winning all three matches in dominant fashion. Alex Llompart (Carolina, Puerto Rico/San Juan Educational School) and Finn Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) disposed of Michel Hu Kwo and Alex Ferrero 8-2 from the top spot in the lineup.

Newly paired Hugh Clarke (Brisbane, Australia/Brisbane Boys College) and Mousheg Hovhannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental HS) clinched the doubles point with an 8-1 win against Justin Guay and Daniel Coelho.

Sebastian Fanselow (Essen, Germany/Kaplan College Prep) and Jenson Turner (Woodland Hills, Calif./Campbell Hall HS) were credited with a 6-1 victory versus Stefan Micov and Feoff Hernandez to close doubles play.

Pepperdine continued to set the rhythm in singles, winning five matches in straight sets.

Fanselow extended his win streak to 12 matches following a 6-0, 6-3 win over Micov. Turner followed suit with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 triumph against Guay from court five.

Both Clarke and Daniel Moss (Malibu, Calif./Malibu HS) allowed just three games in their respective matches, while Llompart improved to 2-0 when playing from the No. 2 spot in the lineup after a 6-3, 6-1 victory versus Hernandez.


 

 

The Pilots (11-6, 2-3 WCC) avoided the sweep with Hu Kwo's three set win in the final match of the day to finish.

The Waves continued this week's action with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14. The team will celebrate Senior Day prior to the 11 a.m. match versus Gonzaga, and play in its final home regular-season dual at 5 p.m. against #16-ranked (Div. II) Abilene Christian.
