March 2, 2014
LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Pepperdine men’s tennis team concluded action today at the 125th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championship. Two Wave tandems reached the round of 32 before bowing out.
After winning in the opening round of 128 yesterday, Rakshay Thakkar (Pune, India/ St. Vincent's HS) and Pedro Leme (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Mackenzie Tambore) beat USC’s Nick Crystal and Jonny Wang 8-6 to advance to the round of 32.
Their run would end there, however, as Thakkar and Leme dropped a narrow 8-6 decision to Joseph Di Giulio and Clay Thompson of UCLA.
Kento Tanaka-Tamaki (Kihei, Hawaii/St. Anthony Junior-Senior HS) and Stefan Menichella (Santa Barbara, Calif./University HS) also advanced to the third round before suffering their first loss of the tournament. Tanaka-Tamaki and Menichella lost to Robbie Bellamy and Connor Farren, 8-5
Alex Giannini (Los Angeles, Calif./Gorman Learning Center) and Tom Hill (Birmingham, England/K12 International Academy) saw their run end in the round of 64 with a heartbreaking loss in the tiebreaker to Milen Ianakeiv and Juan Florez, 9-8.
