Waves Advance to Semifinals After 4-0 Rout of Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The #21 Pepperdine men’s tennis team opened the Blue Gray National Tennis Championships with a 4-0 win over #32 Alabama. The Waves face Notre Dame at 11 a.m. (PT) tomorrow morning on the courts of the Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
Pepperdine (7-2) opened the tournament, which features eight ranked squads, versus the Crimson Tide (5-2). In doubles, Sebastian Fanselow (Essen, Germany) and Jenson Turner (Woodland Hills, Calif./Campbell Hall HS), who recently were awarded with a #61 doubles rank in the Campbell/ITA collegiate poll, cruised to an 8-1 win against Michael Thompson and Ian Chadwell in the No. 3 match.
The Pepperdine tandem is a team-best 7-0 in dual action in 2011 and 8-1 overall.
In singles, Llompart gave the Waves a 2-0 lead after a swift 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Vikram Reddy. Finn Tearney (Wellington, New Zealand), playing in the No. 2 match, topped Botha in straight sets.
Fanselow tallied the fourth and dual-deciding point for Pepperdine, downing Ricky Doverspike 6-1, 7-6.
Moreno, Mousheg Hovannisyan (North Hollywood, Calif./Continental Academy) and David Sofaer (Bellevue Hill, Australia) were all ahead in their respective matches when play was suspended.
