Men's Golf Signs One for 2008

MALIBU, Calif. – The Pepperdine men’s golf team signed one of the top golfers in Southern California for 2008, as Coach John Geiberger announced the Waves received a letter of intent from current high school senior Johnny MacArthur.

MacArthur, a senior from Hart High School in Newhall, Calif., is a three-time all-conference first-team member and team MVP with a career 71.8 scoring average. With the departure of seniors Jesse Barnsley, Eric Shriver and Colin Wilcox at the end of the 2007-08 season, Geiberger was pleased to sign a player of MacArthur’s caliber to make up for their losses.

“He’ll fit in great here at Pepperdine,” Geiberger said. “He’s the perfect kind of Pepperdine student-athlete. He’s a very driven player with a great short game who’s also a standout multi-sport athlete.”

MacArthur, a three-sport athlete at Hart, was named to The Signal’s All-Santa Clarita Valley Boys Golf Team for the second consecutive year in 2007 and finished as the runner up for the Foothill League MVP.

“Johnny brings a competitiveness to our team which will be fun and he’ll fit in great with the rest of the guys,” Geiberger said.
