Freshmen Help Waves to Sixth Place Finish at Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational

Kauai, Hawaii - Freshmen Carl Smith and Shane Mason each carded 1-under par 69s during Thursday's final round of the Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational to help Pepperdine post a third-round score of 1-under par 179 and finish sixth at the nine-team event held at the par-70, 6,885-yard Kiahuna Golf Club in Kauai, Hawaii.
Texas captured the team title with a 7-over par score of 847 to finish six shots ahead of Michigan (853). Host Purdue (856) was third followed by Virginia Tech (857) and Clemson (859).
The Waves finished at 23-over par 863.
Junior Colin Wilcox was the top individual performer for Pepperdine as he totaled a 4-over par score of 214 to tie for 11th.
Smith and Mason tied for 17th at 6-over par 216 while juniors Jesse Barnsley and Eric Shriver tied for 23rd with 9-over par scores of 219.
The Aloha Purdue Collegiate Invitational marked the conclusion of Pepperdine's fall schedule. The Waves begin their spring season at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate January 29 in Tucson, Arizona.
